These 1973 Demos are available officially but spead over quite a few compilations with some no longer produced. they were made by their Producer Al Kooper in Preparation for the sessions for "Pronounced 'Leh-'nerd 'Skin-'nerd" later that spring.they were made quick with one take, no overdubbing, and a very quick mixing job
sometimes you can barely hear the lead guitar in sections . during the solo in Free Bird Allen Collins breaks a string and their is no lead for 2-3 minutes and for this collection,
i lifted the lead from the Pronounced version and mixed it in during that empty section. but i'm including the original broke string version as well so you can decide which one you want. also there is some controversy with Skynyrd fans over two songs '' Gotta Go & I've Been Your Fool'' when released on the album ''Best of the Rest'' in 1982, Production credit was given to Jimmy Johnson and Tim Smith for Muscle Shoals Productions. i'm one of those who seriously doubts this for a few reasons. the issues with lead guitar is the same as the 1973 demos . Jimmy Johnson is a well known session guitarist as well as a producer . if he recorded those songs i think he would of corrected the guitar sound either during Skynyrd's original 1971-72 sessions with him or when they came back in 1975-76 and did overdubs on the songs they did not re-record to release them as an album. for those reasons i feel those 1982 credits are all guesswork and no research. besides when you listen to this collection, i think you find that they fit in perfectly.
