I protagonisti sono Matt Albie (Matthew Perry) e Danny Tripp (Brandley Whitford), i due storici sceneggiatori riassunti per risollevare le sorti del programma Studio 60, appunto; ed è così che la nuova dirigente dell’intrattenimento della rete Nbs, Jordan McDeere (Amanda Peet), li presenta durante la conferenza stampa.
Poco importa che Studio 60 si ispiri al celebre Saturday Night Live e la Nbs sia una rete molto simile alla Nbc, quello che importa è che la serie racconta il dietro le quinte della tv, una qualsiasi, di un qualunque programma che potrebbe andare in onda ovunque.
Dialoghi frenetici e curatissimi, comicità raffinata, argomenti profondi trattati con leggerezza e un pizzico di idealismo dal sapore democratico, queste sono le caratteristiche, o meglio, il marchio di fabbrica dell’ideatore del telefilm, quell'Aaron Sorkin che ha firmato anche The West Wing.
Un curioso e affascinante esperimento della finzione nella finzione, che rivela i meccanismi e le dinamiche creative e organizzative che stanno alla base di un programma televisivo, oltre che mostrare un ritratto provocatorio, spietato e cinico dell’ambiente televisivo caratterizzato da rivalità , compromessi, censure e storie in cui si fondono amore e potere.
L’antefatto è il seguente: il produttore di Studio 60 ritrovandosi a subire una sorta di censura, sbotta in diretta con un discorso accusatorio nei confronti della compagnia che produce lo show e della televisione in generale.
la Trama
Lo Studio 60 è alle prese con vari problemi, tra cui la perdita di ascolti. A risolvere la situazione vengono chiamate menti fresche e talentuose che porteranno nuova linfa vitale al palinsesto. I nuovi arrivati dovranno vedersela con svariati intoppi, tra i quali le crisi isteriche (in diretta) dei produttori esecutivi, e gli imprevisti che stravolgono lo studio durante i turni serali. Dal genio creatore di West Wing, arriva una nuova serie brillante che diverte e strizza l'occhio agli addetti ai lavori di questo vortice scintillante che è la televisione.
