zaterdag 7 november de nieuwe dramaserie The Last Kingdom in première. Acteur Rutger Hauer (71) speelt in de serie de
rol van King Ravn, een ex-soldaat en voormalig Vikingvorst. 


The Last Kingdom is een bewerking van de
boekenreeks The Saxon Stories van auteur Bernard Cornwell. Het is een episch verhaal dat zich afspeelt in het jaar 872
over het ontstaan van een natie . De zender BBC First kondigde maandag aan dat de serie in première gaat met een
dubbele aflevering.

De hoofdrol wordt gespeeld door Alexander Dreymon. Hij speelt Uhtred, geboren als de zoon
van een Saksische edelman, maar verweesd door Vikingen en ontvoerd en opgevoed als één van hen. Zijn loyaliteit
wordt op de proef gesteld doordat hij gedwongen wordt om te kiezen tussen zijn geboorteland en zijn opvoeders. Is hij
Saksisch of een Viking?

De nieuwe historische dramaserie is gemaakt door de regisseurs van Downton Abbey.
