  Ten years ago, a seven-year-old boy named Jamal Terrence Water experienced the worst thing in his life. He held
his dying mother in his arms. The killer, his father, is still on the run, but before her untimely death, she made a
promise with Jamal that he will stay off the streets and become the first person in the family to graduate from high
school and go to college.
  
  He gets his one chance in a lifetime to audition for the principal seat and if
he wins, he could get a full-tuition music scholarship to his dream school. Due to the abandonment of his father, Jamal
is left with a lack of money. He gets a proposition to join a home invasion for some quick cash, but it falls on the
same night as the audition.
  
  Will Jamal keep the promise he made with his mother or join his two best
friends?
  
  The Principal Seat is a short story that explores violence, crime, and the hope for a better
tomorrow.
