Tales of Dunk
and Egg is a series of fantasy novellas by George R. R. Martin, set in the world of his A Song of Ice and Fire novels.
They follow the adventures of "Dunk" (the future commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall) and
"Egg" (the future king Aegon V Targaryen), some 90 years before the events of the novels.

The
Hedge Knight
A century before the events of New York Times best-selling author George R. R. Martin's epic
series, A Song of Ice and Fire, a squire named Dunk picks up the sword and shield of his dead master and enters a
tournament to begin his career as a knight. But "Ser Duncan" has much to learn about this world of knights and
nobles, and as he attempts to find a sponsor who will allow him to enter the tournament, he makes friends and enemies
readily. Dunk is a capable fighter and has a strong sense of honor, but is that enough for him to become a true knight
in the eyes of the others, or is he just a young man living a delusion and putting those he knows in grave danger?

The Sworn Sword
The Hedge Knight, published in the first Legends, takes place in the last days of
Good King Daeron?s reign, about a hundred years before the opening of the first of the Ice and Fire novels, with the
realm at peace and the Targaryen dynasty at its height. It tells the story of the first meeting between Dunk, a hedge
knight?s squire, and Egg, a boy who is rather more than he seems, and of the great tourney at Ashford Meadow. The Sworn
Sword, the tale that follows, picks up their story a year or so later

first introduced the baseborn ?Hedge Knight,? Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Egg, in his novella ?The Hedge
Knight,? a finalist for the World Fantasy Award. The two characters became wildly popular and returned for further
adventures in ?The Sworn Sword.? In the vivid and hugely entertaining novella that follows, Martin takes Dunk and Egg on
a further adventure, as they participate in a sinister tourney where absolutely nothing is as it seems?including Dunk
and Egg!
